Volunteers with amateur radio licenses are always desired for VCSAR community service events. Please contact Larry Mangum (KG7GKQ) to volunteer.

    6. VE Testing [Ray Montagne - W7CIA]

The schedule for VE testing for 2016 has been set and is posted on the CIARC.org home-page as follows:

The Volunteer Examiner Team met on January 12th, 2016, at the home of Richard Wagner (W7ELE) to discuss procedures, the importance of Amateur Extra class VE examiner participation, the need to have General class Volunteer Examiners to upgrade to the Amateur Extra class license, and the 2016 testing schedule.

6 Saturday, 20 February Horseshoe Bend Technician Class Exam ONLY
7 Saturday, 2 April McCall Technician Class Exam ONLY
      8 Saturday, 6 August Cascade
      9 Saturday, 5 Nov McCall

During 2015 conversations related to establishing linking capabilities between the CIARC repeater network and the KA7ERV repeater, located on Pilot Peak in Boise County, Rob Blout (KA7ERV) disclosed that they had a number of prospective HAMs that needed to attend a test session but that they had had difficulty in obtaining a VE Team authorization. A request to help the KA7ERV repeater group was disclosed to the CIARC at the past several meetings, and was a discussion point at the VE Team meeting. The VE Team has a sufficient number of examiners that have volunteered so that we can support VE Testing for the Technician class license exam in support of the KA7ERV repeater group.

Thanks to VE Team Members Dave McQuade (W7LCC), Bob Renn (KF7JPJ), Bill Beckham (W7CBS) and Richard Wagner (W7ELE) for offering their valuable time to support this effort!

Contact VE signatures were provided on W5YI-VEC Volunteer Examiner applications for Rob Blout (KA7ERV), Robert Glenn (N7BVX) and Roy Fields (W6XS), and these applications were forwarded to the W5YI-VEC on January 19th, along with an order for FCC 605 NVEC forms and CSCE. The FCC 605 NVEC and CSCE forms orders are to support the 2016 testing sessions. A fourth VE application for Ron Wilson (AD7DQ) was signed on January 28th. It is hoped that W5YI-VEC Volunteer Examiner VE numbers are issued to these KA7ERV Repeater Group members prior to the February 20th session in the hope that we can have them participate in the VE process. Getting their team member signatures to accompany our team member signatures on the W5YI-VEC Test Manifest will help the KA7ERV Repeater Group to obtain the experience required to establish their own testing team.

On January 28th, Ray Montagne (W7CIA) met with Rob Blout (KA7ERV), Robert Glenn (N7BVX), Roy Fields (W6XS) and Ron Wilson (AD7DQ) in Horseshoe Bend, the location for the February 20th session, to go over policies, procedures, and the BAEARS Study Method. As of January 31st, there are 15 registrants for this session.

There is a small possibility that a larger venue may be needed for the February 20th session. If a change of venue occurs, this will be locked down at least one week before the test date and notification will be made to all registrants, along with posting a notice at the originally scheduled venue.

    7. Valley County ARES [Larry Stokes - N7IBC]

Larry Stokes (N7IBC) has been appointed the Valley County ARES Emergency Coordinator, with Tim Bailey (AD7IW) assuming the role of Valley County ARES Assistant Emergency Coordinator.
