Meeting Minutes - July 2013
QST: Access to the roster has been verified for all member accounts. The only issue was with Mike Huston's account and that issue has been resolved.
McCall Trail Running Classic
The Net Operating Procedures were reviewed.
Volunteers agreed that procedures and the participant roster can be printed by the individual operators. Ray Montagne (W7CIA) will make sure all material is available prior to the event.
Ray Montagne (W7CIA) will contact Jeremy Humphry and Brandi Boli to verify the start time for staffing of each of the aid stations.
Ray Montagne (W7CIA) will contact Jeremy Humphry and Brandi Boli to determine when the roster of participants will be available.
The 2-meter NET that is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10th, at 8:00PM, will be used for an over-the-air meeting to finalize planning for the McCall Trail Running Classic.
The repeater is operating in carrier access. The CTCSS decoder had been turned off to test while repairing the repeater and was not re-enabled.
Until the repeater is switched back into CTCSS decode operation, the south valley receiver, which is located at the W7CIA repeater, cannot be put into operation. Doing so would result in interference as two receivers would be active simultaneously instead of one.
Pending maintenance, for later this summer, is to install a separate feed-line for the 33cm link and install the lightning arrestors on both feed-lines.
A galvanized pipe needs to be procured to replace the antenna mount on the Brundage Mt. repeater site. Rather than duplicate the current configuration where one pipe supports another, a single pipe should be fastened to the building and the antenna elements should be directly mounted to the pipe. It would be desirable to have this work completed prior to the McCall Trail Running Classic so that the repeater & link are available for use during that event.
A diplexer must be installed at the antenna connector, where a very small 33cm link antenna will also be installed. This antenna will mount on the same pipe as the 70cm antenna elements and is approximately 3 inches tall by 1 inch in diameter.
Philip Good (KB7BVS) has a 12 foot section of galvanized pipe to replace the antenna mast.
The NHRC-4 repeater controller and link radio have been mounted to a 19 inch rack enclosure. The link radio is wired to the NHRC-4 but completion of interfacing for the Repco Dimension 70cm repeater will need to occur at the repeater site as the manual, which includes information on the polarity of the COS and CTCSS decoder signals, is at the repeater site. Ray Montagne (W7CIA) is planning to perform this installation within the next week.
Lenard Crogh (W7HXU), Bob Renn (KF7JPJ), Dave McQuade (W7LCC) and Ray Montagne (W7CIA) have tentatively planned to travel to Brundage Mountain on Tuesday, July 2nd to repair the antenna and install the link radio.
Ray Montagne (W7CIA) would like the membership to approve purchase of a pre-amplifier for the 70cm repeater receiver. The pre-amplifier, a Down East Microwave model L432LNA-2N, is priced at $75 (plus tax & shipping). The 70cm repeater receiver is specified to have a sensitivity of 0.35µV for -12 dB SINAD (i.e. -116 dBm). This sensitivity is quite poor and adding the pre-amplifier will make the 70cm repeater much more usable. Note that even the poorest specification receivers now make 0.25µV for -12 dB SINAD (i.e. -119 dBm), and many, such as the 2m repeater receiver, can attain 0.18µV for -12 dB SINAD (i.e. -121 dBm).
The membership granted unanimous approval for the purchase of the Down East Microwave pre-amp.
CIARC Pot-Luck & BBQ
Peter Lakomski suggests holding a CIARC pot-luck dinner & BBQ, at Peter''s QTH. Peter suggests late July and August.
Peter to determine the scheduling for this event.
